Day 323 - Paul Whelan - Lefortovo Prison Moscow - Update November 15, 2019 - Upcoming appeal hearing

Paul's lawyers have appealed his ongoing detention and there will be a hearing next Tuesday, November, 19, at 10:10 in the Moscow City Court, room 327.  We'd welcome attendance by any journalists who can make it.  We do not expect the appeal to be successful, but even it is, it is not an appeal that will result in his freedom.  The only possible alternative outcome is that he would be detained outside of Lefortovo (house arrest) until his trial next summer.

We have not had any news of Paul since October 17 since he has not had any consular visits since then.  Those in-person meetings are our only way of getting information on his current condition.  Visits have been requested but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not always respond.  We believe the Canadian Embassy saw him yesterday and when we have heard from their staff, I'll send a longer update to this group.

Thanks for your continued concern for our brother who has been wrongfully imprisoned by the Russian Federation.
