Day 1554 - Paul Whelan - IK-17 Mordovia Russia - March 31, 2023 - New Congressional Resolutions

Our family is very grateful for the advocacy of members of Congress, led by the Michigan delegation.  Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow introduced S. Res. 156 yesterday [3/30/2023].  Representative Haley Stevens and 12 co-sponsors from both sides of the aisle (Bergman, Dingell, Huizenga, Kildee, James, McClain, Moolenaar, Scholten, Slotkin, Thanedar, Tlaib, Walberg) introduced H. Res. 272 yesterday.  Both resolutions call on the Russian Federation to release Paul. (Press release)

This is the third time that members of the Michigan delegation have introduced House Resolutions (116 H. Res. 552, 117 H. Res. 336) and Senate Resolutions (116 S. Res. 308, 117 S. Res. 165) calling on the Kremlin to free Paul.  They have steadfastly stood by Paul over the past 4+ years and their Resolutions document the continuing injustice that he experiences.

We hope that these Resolutions will signal, both to their targeted audience in the Kremlin, as well as to the White House, the need to bring this sorry case of wrongful detention to a close.  We appreciate what these Resolutions represent: a public expression of the concern that these members of Congress continue to exhibit in regular meetings with Administration officials to ensure that everything that can be done for Paul is done.  Their actions mean so much to our family.
